ULTIMATE
CUSTOM
TOOLBOX

I started with a normal toolbox. It quickly turned into a fully customized mobile workshop with integrated electrical components, dedicated storage, and a few extra features I wish every toolbox had.

THE IDEA

It started with a simple annoyance: a drill is one of the most important tools in a toolbox, but using one also means keeping track of a battery and a charger that inevitably end up somewhere else.

I wanted to fix that by integrating a drill-battery charger directly into the toolbox.

THE RABBIT HOLE

Once the toolbox needed a power connection, I started asking what else could be integrated.

  • Integrated drill battery charger
  • Torsion-spring retractable power cable
  • Integrated front power strip
  • Dimmable LED lighting

Each feature solved a problem — and created a new one to solve.

THE DETAILS

Dedicated storage keeps the tools I use most often immediately accessible.

  • Removable drill-bit case
  • Soldering iron + supplies
  • Drawing and cutting tools
  • Multimeter
  • Adhesives, tapes & fasteners

The lid also mounts a measuring tape, knife, caliper, and ruler for quick access.

THE HARDEST PART

The retractable cable spool. Getting the torsion spring system to reliably retract the cable while also making the release button dependable took the most iteration.
